Richard and Mildred Loving just wanted to be married and live in their home state of Virginia. Not much to ask. But in 1958, interracial marriage in the State of Virginia was banned. They got married anyway, were arrested, and fought their arrest all the way into the Supreme Court. This just-released Loving film tells their powerful story with subtlety, and what has been called an Oscarworthy performance. Reviews generally are coming in strong, with an 88% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. A previous film was made on this topic in 1996, Mr. & Mrs. Loving.
