Karl Marx and family will be the subject of a new TV drama, based on the book Love and Capital, an intimate portrayal of the charming romantic shenanigans of the intellectual father of modern democide (specifically, of the five largest democides of the last century, resulting in the death of over 150 million, four occurred in the service of establishing socialism).
But never mind all that. Says Variety: “Illicit affairs, revolutionary plots, murder-suicide pacts, midnight escapes, aristocratic luxury and Dickensian poverty — the true story of the Marx dynasty outdoes even the most fanciful of today’s invented soap operas, all against the background of a world on fire and the formation of ideas that still transform today’s global society.”
No word yet on how it will treat the awkward subject of Helene Demuth. She was a teenage girl given to Marx as a part of his wife’s dowry, to be used as an unpaid maid, and with whom Marx “had an affair,” or statutorily raped, as we would put it today. Don’t worry, though, that wasn’t exploitation of the poor because being an unpaid household drudge and sex slave to an aging Karl Marx (who abhorred baths, by the way), in this case, was in the cause of history.
